Vonoprazan 20 mg tablets are typically prescribed for: Healing of erosive esophagitis (EE) due to GERD, and relief of associated heartburn, Maintenance of healing of EE (usually at 10 mg once daily after the initial 20 mg course), Relief of heartburn in non?erosive GERD, H. pylori eradication, in combination regimens with antibiotics (amoxicillin ± clarithromycin), In some countries, also for gastric/duodenal ulcers and ulcer prevention while on low?dose aspirin or NSAIDs.
Reported side effects are generally mild to moderate; examples include: Diarrhea, constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, Headache, Possible changes in liver enzymes. Important cautions (not exhaustive): Drug interactions: Vonoprazan can affect levels of drugs dependent on gastric pH or metabolized by CYP3A; always review your full medication list with a clinician. Long?term acid suppression: As with other strong acid suppressors, there are theoretical concerns (e.g., infections, nutrient absorption) with prolonged use; duration should be clinically justified.
